Our Doctors

Dr. Lawrence Powell started his undergraduate education at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He completed his undergraduate education and obtained his medical degree at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois. He also completed a residency in Family Practice medicine at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and went on to complete a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Hughston Orthopedic Clinic in Columbus, Georgia.

 

He currently is an assistant professor at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. His sports medicine highlights include providing medical services to the United States Summer Olympics, Ringside Physician for Evander Holyfield Championship Fight, and being selected as one of the top Sports Medicine Physicians by the Atlanta Magazine.

 

He’s served as team physician for several high schools and colleges including Atlanta Public Schools, Morris Brown College, Clayton State, College, Spelman College, Northwestern University, and Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Powell and his wife, Denise currently reside in College Park, Georgia where he is a proud grandfather of three grandchildren.

 

 

Esther I. Iwotor, DNP, FNP-C, APRN, is a Family Nurse Practitioner with extensive national and international experience. She earned her undergraduate and MSN-FNP degrees from Kennesaw State University, Georgia, and completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice at The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.
She currently practices at Caduceus USA, an occupational medicine facility, where she conducts a wide range of physical examinations—including pre-employment, return-to-work, school sports, and CDL certification and recertification exams—and provides treatment for work-related injuries. She also serves as a Certified Medical Examiner for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
Dr. Iwotor’s career highlights include service at Grady Memorial Hospital’s East Point Health Center, a high-volume community outpatient clinic, as well as contributions to the OB/OBICU and CCU/Neurosurgery ICU units. She has also worked at Southwest Hospital in Atlanta and served as Clinical Faculty at the Georgia State University Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing.
A dedicated mentor, she has precepted new-hire RNs and guided students through clinical rotations in BSN and MSN-FNP programs, while also supporting DNP candidates in their thesis defenses. She continues to advance patient-centered care through her work with 1stCare Management Organization, delivering transitional and chronic care directly within patients’ communities.
Beyond her professional practice, Dr. Iwotor is deeply engaged in her community. She is married with four children and serves as a Lector and active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Smyrna, Georgia.

Dr. Rickey L. Goins is a graduate of Life University Chiropractic School in Marietta, GA who specializes in sport medicine and auto accidents. He works for Active Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, Ga. While finishing chiropractic school, Dr. Goins had the opportunity to work with Clark Atlanta University sport medicine team as a chiropractor and athletic trainer intern working with the athletes and their sports injuries.

 

In addition to his chiropractic degree, Dr. Goins is also an athletic trainer, performing his undergraduate work at University of Tennessee of Knoxville, Master’s at Tuskegee University. He has worked with high schools and collegiate athletes in all sports as well as Semi pro football and basketball athletes while interning at Clark Atlanta University. It was during his time at Clark Atlanta University that Dr. Goins witnessed first hand the tremendous benefits of chiropractic and sport medicine while working with athletes.

 

This motivated his decision to attend Life University and concentrate in a Master’s in sports injury management. He utilizes a number of chiropractic techniques along with his background in athletic training and sports populations to help relieve injuries and promote good health.

He is the owner of Active Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center helping people with spinal and soft tissue injuries from auto accidents and sports injuries.
